Diversity and inclusion efforts are essential to our purpose. Working in a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive workplace gives every employee inspiration, energy, and creativity to fulfill our Mission. A stronger and united Medtronic means we’re continuing to drive innovation and devise powerful solutions that help our partners deliver better patient outcomes and contribute to human welfare.

Our Global Inclusion, Diversity, and Engagement (GIDE) team leads our effort to ensure our workforce, at every level of the organization, reflects the world in which we live and work. To further accelerate careers of women and ethnically diverse talent, we have four Diversity Networks dedicated to helping employees succeed both professionally and personally. Our executive committee and board of directors support the GIDE team and Diversity Networks with resources. Medtronic also supports global Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to foster an employee-driven approach to unite around a common identity and foster a culture of inclusivity.

INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY HIGHLIGHTS FROM FISCAL YEAR 2018

At the end of FY18, Medtronic employed more than 86,000 people across 150 countries:

  • Ethnically diverse talent held 21% of positions at the management level and above in the United States — surpassing our 2020 aspirational goal of 20% or more. Ethnically diverse talent represented 34% of our overall workforce in the United States.
  • Women represented 54% of global new hires, ensuring a robust pipeline of female talent. Women also represented 37% of our leaders globally, showing progress toward our 2020 aspirational goal of 40% or more.

Medtronic is growing a culture of inclusion by building a sense of community, belonging and activation via Diversity Networks and ERGs.

  • Nearly 16,000 employees participated in 13 ERGs across 60 countries.
  • The Medtronic Women’s Network generated 12,000 members and 112 hubs across 60 countries.
  • In FY18, we launched the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Road Initiative, which encourages more women to take on science and engineering roles.
